7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
The fourth week of Advent is all about love. I often wonder do we as individuals really grasp the depth of god's love for us? Do we really understand just how much God truly does love us? Advent is that time of year we remember God's amazing love by remembering the greatest gift ever given to us and that is God's Son, Jesus Christ. through Christ God has given grace to all who believe upon Jesus. Grace for forgiveness of sins, grace for transformation, grace for living, and grace for relationship. If we really grasped the depth of god's love for us it would have a profound effect on how we love each other.
I love the epistle of First John because John holds no punches. John tells it just how it is. If a person loves they are of God, if they love not they are not of God. Plain and simple. There is no doubt a correlation to the ugliness in this world and the lack of grasping the depth of God's love. I pray this Advent season has helped us to fall deeper in love with God and with each other!
